We, Nina Carriero, Alicia Hartley, Michelle Un, and Lauren Santiago, visited the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Providence. We were discussing the experience afterward in the dining hall and were trying to think of the best way to present our visit as a group. The stumbling block that we kept coming up against was that we each had different religious backgrounds and wanted to be able to share these backgrounds within the project. We came up with a solution: a blog! We figured that this would be the perfect medium to present our project. The best part of presenting it as a blog is that we could have conversations with each other that would help us learn more about religion. For example, if one of us didn't fully understand another's religious background, we could ask about it, thus incorporating more information into our project. Additionally, a blog is a great way to incorporate pictures into the project--for instance, when we write about the purple mugs that signal to congregants that the holder is a newcomer, we thought it would help the reader of the blog to imagine the setting if there was a picture of us holding the purple mugs. We hope you see our blog as a powerful medium of communication! Feel free to commment on it!
How to navigate the blog: On our blog, you will find several different postings, from A Bit of Background to Personal Reflections to Memorable Moments (in orange), with the oldest posts located at the bottom of the blog. Each of these posts is focused on a different topic and include a couple of key questions that faciliate responses. If you click on the headers for each of these posts, you will find our “comments” or responses to each topic. Throughout the week after our visitation, we have frequented the blog to discuss different aspects of the church that we found interesting and/or puzzling. Under one important section, Personal Reflections, we have all posted our individual reactions and thoughts on the service and the Unitarian Univeralist Church in general. If you have any questions regarding the navigation of the blog, please don’t hesitate to ask us!
